Selected members of the Texas Education Center (TEC)* are proud to invite you to attend an Education Town Hall: A School Board Forum on Tuesday, September 27 at 6:00pm at Lamar High School. This Town Hall will bring together the candidates running for the HISD School Board for an evening of discussion and debate. An expert panel composed of leaders from the non-profit realm will question the candidates regarding the most pressing issues in education policy, including early education, charter school cooperation, and teacher evaluation. Following the forum, the TEC partners will host an Action Center, providing hands-on ways for concerned citizens to get involved with local education reform efforts.

As you are aware, the magnet recommendations have been put on hold until September 2011.
(Funding would drop at 69 schools and increase at 53 under Grier’s preliminary plan. In all, the district would slash spending for magnet schools, excluding busing, by more than $4 million next school year, according to a Houston Chronicle review of the data.) We appreciate the delay and the time this allows to understand the recommendations further. Plenty of news articles below to fill you in on the subject.
