FISH Camp

Charles Swenson

FISH Camp is a two-night freshmen orientation program held at Camp Cullen in Trinity, Texas on Lake Livingston (students leave Thursday around noon and return Saturday around 3:30 p.m. the weekend before school starts). Activities are geared for freshmen to get to know their fellow classmates before school starts on the following Monday. Senior and Junior CVHS students act as counselors to help the incoming freshmen know what to expect during their next four years at CVHS. Cost per student is between $100 - $125 after the CVHS PTO underwrites certain costs (camp and transportation).

Houston Area Model United Nations

Participants pay a $20 fee for the HAMUN conference. Any CVHS student can join.

Junior Classical League

Junior Classical League is open to all students interested in Classical civilization (not just Latin students). JCL competes at Regional, State and National events in a variety of Classical topics and activities. Some eligibility requirements.

Junior Statesmen of America

The students meet weekly to participate in political debates and discussions. Three times a year the students have an opportunity to meet with other JSA chapters and participate in debates at state conventions.

Odyssey of the Mind

The Odyssey of the Mind is a competition that requires students to use their creativity to solve problems.. Students form teams, choose a problem and participate in nationwide as well as worldwide competitions.

Optional Lunch Activities: volleyball, rugby, soccer, library, basketball

*Clubs are formed and remain active based on student interest. Any student wishing to start a club or student activity may recruit a faculty sponsor and organize a group. Most clubs meet during the hour-long lunch period on a regular basis established by the student leadership and the sponsor. Multi-school student competitions usually take place after school and on weekends. Sports activities take place after school and on weekends.
