Carengie Ranked #1 by "Children at Risk" Organization
A press conference was held at CVHS on Monday, April 13, 2009 to announce the the results of the Children at Risk rankings. The announcement that Carnegie Vanguard High School ranked #1 was met with cheers of excitement from faculty & staff, students & parents.
Children at Risk, a Houston-based research and advocacy nonprofit, evaluated the high schools in eight local counties on various academic factors and provided its ranking of 131 campuses exclusively to the Chronicle.
Every school is ranked based on 14 criteria--all indicative of whether a school is not only graduating all of their students, but whether or not they are adequately preparing them for college. Included in the 2009 analysis was the number of students who took the SAT or ACT, and the number of students who took at least one AP or IB exam. CHILDREN AT RISK also included the percentage of students who took and received credit for at least one advanced course.
