Support Gifted and Talented Education at Carnegie

November 1, 2010

Dear Friends of CVHS:
It is with great pleasure that I announce our 2010-2011 GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) Campaign.
The GATE Campaign Committee works with faculty and staff to identify and support the broad and long-term needs of CVHS. The PTO has decided to dedicate this year’s GATE Campaign towards helping to expand the library’s collection, fund a new portable PA system, and provide “black-out” curtains for all the classrooms.

1. The library’s collection is 1,000 volumes short of the TEA Standards. Many of the books are outdated. Although the collection will be expanded when the new school is built, our current students need those resources now. And, new books, DVDs, videos, and other additions to the library will be transferred to the new school and continue their useful life. Ms. Paget has requested several thousand dollars to support this endeavor.

2. The school’s portable PA system is old and failing. Through the GATE Campaign, the PTO would like to purchase a state of the art portable PA system that can be used by the whole school for meetings, student club events, and PTO meetings in the courtyard or cafegymalockatorium. This too is an acquisition that can travel with CVHS to the new building. We anticipate that the cost will be approximately several thousand dollars.

3. Many CVHS teachers use projectors and similar equipment to enhance their teaching. But, the students cannot always see the projections because the existing blinds and shades do not make the classrooms dark enough. The GATE Campaign plans to fund new matching “black-out” curtains for each classroom to remedy this problem. These curtains will also create a more uniform and enhanced appearance to the school. We anticipate that these curtains will cost approximately $200 to $400 per classroom.

We hope that when planning your fall giving, you will consider A DONATION TO CVHS. Everyone is encouraged to participate, regardless of the amount you contribute. Please use the button below to submit your contribution.

Thank you in advance for your support of Carnegie Vanguard High School.

Sincerely,
Sarah Sharlot Dietrich
